Do not call is a waste of time for this type of call. They aren't telemarketers, they're scammers.
I was getting a lot of these, but then I started trying to waste as much of their time as I could. I'd ask stupid questions and play along, making sure that I always gave them enough hope that they'd get me.
After a few weeks of doing this every time, the calls got a lot rarer. Maybe once every couple of months now.
They work on the theory that even if very few go for the scam, the more calls they can make the more suckers they'll find. The worst thing you can do to them is tie them up for ages without falling for it.
Worked for me.

Oh, they have been calling me too. I kept asking them what was the purpose of their call, then said I didn't want their help. They told me they wanted me to sit down in front of my computer while they walked me through how to help it run better. And then when I told them I didn't take unsolicited advice about such things, they just kept reading the same script over and over. Makes me feel better knowing I didn't fall for it!! Love the rick roll comment!!

As some people have mentioned the do not call register won't work on the overseas "Microsoft" callers. All you can do is tell them you don't have a computer and hang up. I played along with them for a while once. They have clearly been trained to have an answer for everything.

I went all out on these guys last year! I had three calls and had had enough. They get your IP address when you log onto social networking sites and such, from there they get your address and phone number. I used every swearword under the sun, told them they could go and get real jobs instead of ripping people off then invited them around for dinner seeing as they knew where I lived so we could sort it out in person. They have never called back.
