our ds is nearly 3 and still needs help with some foods, especially those he doesnt really like (at the moment that seems to be EVERYTHING!)
but we offered both of our kids their own spoon from around 12 months, with different results every day (and always alot of mess)

My DD would try and do it on her own at around 9-10 months, but made such a mess!
She could do it on her own properly at maybe 18 months?
