Default ** spin off ** Incorrect quotes or sayings

From another thread with examples like

'Faired Income instead of Fair Dinkum'

'Indigenous Australians coming from Indigenisia (like Indonesia)'

    'Splitting image if their father'

What are some of the worst (or best!) incorrect sayings, quotes etc ?!

Not the smartest tool in the shed - instead of not the sharpest tool in the shed.

When he's busy, my DH will say he's being "pushed to the hill." He means "to the hilt."

    Irregardless

Fit as a fiddle does NOT mean healthy - it means appropriate

Another 'thing' coming - its 'Another think coming'

On tender hooks - its 'On tenter hooks' - tenter nooks are small hooks used in clothes drying - to be left on tenter hooks meant you were left out to dry and to wait

To give someone free reign - its actually to give some one free rein - as in letting a horse gallop without pulling them up

wreck havoc is a tautology - its wreak havoc - wreck means 'destroy', wreak means 'to cause'

Its a deserted island - as in no people, not a desert island as in lots of sand and no water. I'd rather be on a deserted island than a desert island

I asked my SIL ( who works for us) last year if the end of month was ready for me and she said " yep all it needs is your John Dory and it's all done"
She meant to say she needs my "john Hancock " - signature !
now if course the whole office says john dory instead if john Hancock!
