Default Very important: Financial planner / advisor

Does anyone here work in financial help of any kind or used a financial service to get themselves back on track!?

We want to set ourselves up to be able to pay our debts off etc so eventually we can be debt free and actually get some decent savings.

We want to see someone to help us but have no idea where to start and of it costs and of so is of expensive? We are obviously doing this coz we are sick of being broke.

    Please reply!

    TIA xxx

In your situation, you need a financial counsellor, a free service provided by community organisations:

    what msmummy said

Avoid places like fox symmes. They have a place, but they are a business and for the most part they do what you could do yourself with the right advice.

Call one of the services and make an appointment. In the mean time write down All your incomes, all your debts and responsibilities, and write a realistic budget. If you hire movies once a week or month, do birthday parties etc include it in your budget. Be brutally honest! It's important that you be honest with yourself if you're going to get practical advice.

Also check out https://www.moneysmart.gov.au/ which is a government website, so not biased.

Thanks ladies - will follow your suggestions when hubby gets home.

Just thought I would clarify, we arent flat broke... We just live week to week paying bills and want to get ahead of that. All our bills get paid.. thank goodness!!!

I already cut all our bills down significantly, going thru all our expenses, etc... So no more room for culling unfortunately!

often it's not a case of culling, but more shifting debt and understanding how one debt will impact another. The services MsMummy and Shelle mentioned are still going to help you, and having an honest budget to take with you to an appointment will help the people to help you

For some people the best financial step is to remove all debt or risk of debt. Not have ccards etc. Then for others, they use credit to help them. For example I got out of debt by using ccard etc, but it's not very often that people can manage that.
