My DSS is now 5 and has been living with us since he was 1. We have only ever encouraged him to call me by my name but he did go through a stage where he called me mum. DH and I didn't mind, we thought it was better to go through that stage as we were ttc and didn't want him feeling left out. Personally I felt guilty and thought maybe his mother would think I was trying to "steal" him

My DSD calls me by my first name, I suppose it depends on each individual situation, DSD mum is a great mum, DH and her have an amicable relationship.
