    Default Cleaning a washing machine

Anyone know how to clean a front loader. Clothes are starting to smell funny and wonder if it's the washing machine I've cleaned the powder tray but not sure how to clean the inside of the machine other than what I can wipe out. Any advise would be wonderful ... Thanks

A cup of vinegar (instead of detergent) an a hot wash cycle will degrease it.

Obviously with no clothes in it.

Also, once you have cleaned it , leave the door open for it to dry out after every wash and give it a quick wipe down. I didn't do this with our last one and it started to get moldy And was impossible to clean, it died on Friday, so I'm going to be a lot more careful with the new one!

Sorry to hijack your thread OP, but would this work on a top loader also?

Yep that's how I clean my top loader. I also leave the lid open when not in use so it can dry out properly.

I was also going to suggest vinegar, and if any probs after that, some washing soda, bi-carb soda or borax (great stuff, borax). While we're on the subject of cleaning WM's, make sure you clean out the lint collector, if it has one, too. They are TERRIBLE fire hazards. Hope your WM comes out sparkling clean!

Don't forget to empty the water trap at least fortnightly as well. With no old water sitting in the machine the smell is greatly reduced.
