My nearly 9mth old has started waking overnight and can be awake for well over an hour at a time. I get him off to sleep but as soon as I put him down he starts crying again.
Before this he seems to either have nightmares or pain, because we can hear him quietly sobbing in his sleep before he wakes up properly too.
This is not normal for my boy - he is a very happy and settled baby usually and isn't waking hungry (slept through since 7mths with no waking). I've checked the Wonder Years App and he isn't in a growth spurt.
He has no teeth yet and doesn't 'look' like he's teething, no typical symptoms at least. He has started thrashing his head about recently though, like his ears are troubling him?
Can anyone please help?

I have just gone through this very thing! And it *was* teething - his teeth all came in at once, it took a few weeks of the night waking to make show up. He seemed to be in lots of pain as well. Then he got used to waking up during the night....grrr, and now that he has turned one he is still waking.

I did the wrong thing, I gave him hugs and cuddles and basically showed him that if he wakes at night he gets me all to himself (usually he has to fight his 3 brothers for attention) !! It may not happen with your little one.

Oh dear....so perhaps I should stop going to him/picking him up/cuddling/bringing in to my bed when he won't settle??!!!! Ok, point taken, thanks for the tip
