Right at the begining the request was made to debate the issue and not attack the person. Geez, how hard is that!? People ARE entitled to their opinion in a debate thread. Saying that someone's ideas are stupid do not belong in a debate!
Anyway, I am for it under strict controls etc. It's one of those things where the principal is a wonderful idea, but it does make me nervous that the power could be abused. I mean, communism in theory is a delightful idea but the practise is a different story! So yeah, I'm pro euthanasia but would want it with very strict guidlines and rules to eliminate abuse of power.

And as for this 'fine line'... well there are procedures in place for agreeing on a 'do not resuscitate' order, so I imagine the same kind of thing could be used for this.

I have not yet had a chance to read any of the replies, but my answer is absolutely 100% FOR.
I have watched 3 of my grandparents suffer through hell on earth in their final stages of Cancer and Dementia.. the disease is pure evil.

Many, many terminally ill cancer patients at the end of their illness ask to die, so I think that is what lambjam was getting at.

At the end of the day, I don't think anyone should be forced to do what they don't want to do, I also don't think anyone should be able to choose or force someone to stay alive and suffer if that person don't want to stay alive and suffer. My body, my choice.
