Default How do you pronounce "Ireland"?

    Eye-land? Eye-er-land?

I pronounce it as its spelt, with the Ire bit as in shire, fire, etc, but I don't come across many others (particularly with Australian accents) that do.

Just curious how others say it

I put a bit of a soft R in there.

Like. I don't pronounce Ireland and island the same.

It depends, if I'm feelin' fancy I'll add the re in there but its usually I-land. Like iPod. My people are from there and I don't even say it correctly! ;p

When I was a child in New Zealand, I'm sure it was I-land but now as an adult in Australia I automatically read I-er-land (but with the "er" very soft).

I relocated to Australia at 12yo, and I recall thinking I was wrong saying I-land as a teenager, and correcting myself to I-er-land.

Yes, I say it like this too. Although it makes me sound like I am putting on an Irish accent. It makes me eye twitchy when people say is like island.
