On Tuesday night DH and I were startled at the door by two very happy and hungry staffies. Clearly they were someone's pets who'd gone walk about.
We took them in, made them a bed and I put a large sign on our fence in case the owners were walking around looking for them.
My mum told me repeatedly to just let them go, maybe they'd walk home (or get hit by a car), she also suggested taking them to the pound.
Instead DH and I cooked up a huge pot of rice and veggies and fed them.
They were with us for 2 days and tonight I put a post up on the Queensland Lost Pet Register (on facebook) Within 3 hours I had found the lost dogs owners! I couldn't believe it! I texted the owner and immediately got a response. She was coming over RIGHT NOW to get them. They had been missing since Sunday morning! (5 days in total)
It was such a wonderful feeling to be able to reunite these lively and lovely animals with their owners. I am happy all over and feel like I did a good deed.
(I sort of miss the little buggers too!)

Aww sounds like you did the right thing but... why didnt you take them to see if they were microchipped? I have heard a few stories about people on those fb groups pretending to be the dogs owners when they just want to sell/breed them.

We were going to get them checked for microchips tomorrow afternoon. Couldn't do it any earlier as DH has been working late and I don't drive. Turned out they aren't microchipped anyway.
I was careful about what details I gave out. I asked these people to describe the dogs and they did so accurately. Also they had posted a 'Missing' photo on the FB page.
I am aware that some people are devious and try to claim animals that aren't theirs, it's disgusting that people would do that though.
When the owners showed up, it was clear by the dogs excitement that they were legit.
