Maybe that's how to get the police to come, tell them there's a kid in the car and then when they arrive say "sorry, I lied, but can you please go next door because there is a woman being attacked, cheers, thanks"

(so glad I moved away from that street!!!!!)
yeah, might do the trick. Short of bullets and children being 'neglected' in hot cars not much else will get them to come.

Hmm. Bullets. Bullets could work too.

I'm still thinking ambulance is the way to go. I suspect they're all a bit blasé about bullets by now. I mean, surely if the gun has already been fired the damage is done why would the police need to come till like the next day, just to get some statements and what not.

Really? There can be teens can be holding a youth worker at knife point, but they'll amble there 3 hours later, I can have young guys threatening me in my backyard in the afternoon and they'll drop by after midnight to let me know they've driven around the area and can't see anything unusual, my nephew can get bashed by a group of girls and they will call to check if he got medical advice 3 days later, but they'll come out for hoons.

    This place is a hole.

We used to do this until they managed to tip the trolley over in the car park, scaring the hell out of themselves and I as well as being humiliated by the looks I got.
Luckily our local Woolies is really good and the trolley boys/men come and collect them off you.
I've even had one of them load my groceries into my car once when it was raining so I could put the kids in the car

Yes and I have! 38 degrees under cover so it was actually hotter, baby in the car with a minor. Went and got the security guard and also called the local police station, horrible experience!!

It's not a cut and dry yes or no.

It depends on where it is. How old the children are. How the weather is. etc etc.
