Pear juice always helped me.
You have to get the juice in the tin, I was told it was higher in fiber.
Or fiber supplements, like Metamucil (sp?)
After my c-section I was backed up for weeks due to the morphine and the codeine.
Laxatives didn't seem to help me and my midwife suggested pear juice, with in an hour I was going to the toilet (sorry TMI)

Lots of Metamucil and lots of water is what helped me - and I had it bad with my 2 previous pregnancies! Make sure you get it under control new and keep going after the birth as I ended up with fissures and that was harder to recover from than the actual birth (sorry for TMI)

Make sure you are always well hydrated as when you're pregnant the relaxin hormone makes your bowels etc very sluggish, hence constipation.
You can have prune juice, Metamucil and similar fibre drinks. Lot's of fibre rich foods such as rolled oats, fruits etc.
I find eating licorice bulletsalways helps me!

I drink loads of water. Have a glass with benefibre in the morning (if really bad, also evening.) Eat sultanas. And try to do some walking every second day, even if its just down to the mail box and back a few times.

Hi October, I am 27 weeks pregnant, and I have severe constipation that I have to manage every day, otherwise I end up in agony and can't move, especially if I haven't been for 2 to 3 days
I use metamucil and movicol, however, if I miss even one day I hit the prune juice. I big glass each morning keeps me regular, but if I miss a day, I often drink 2 big glasses in the morning (up to 1 litre) and it does the job- I would recommend staying close to a toilet though
It works a treat and gets me back to normal. Good luck

Definately pear juice! When I was really constipated when pregnant I would drink the whole tin (pour it in a water bottle) and it works wonders. Also benefibre was my savior too. It's safe during pregnancy and completely tasteless so I would add a tsp to my glass of juice at breakfast.
