I stayed for 7nights. First 6 nights dd was in the nursery (maconium (sp?) and trouble feeding) then we were home for 5 nights and readmitted for 7 nights from trouble breast feeding and dd weight loss.

I stayed in a private hospital for 5 days.. I LOVED it! It was bliss. Felt like a little holiday lol
That's for first time mums though. I think for second, third babies, the stay is 3 days if there aren't any complications.

5 days after my CS. I didn't mind it so much, my room was massive, I had a double bed and I didn't have to cook or do housework haha. Plus I was a first time mum so I liked that I had people around to answer my 1million questions

I discharged myself about 36 hours after having DS as I couldn't bear being there any longer and needed DH, vaginal birth and tear, I could hardly walk but I wanted to go home. With a normal birth you can usually stay for 3 days in a public hospital, longer for a c-sec.

In the lead up to my first DD I had been in and out of hospital for several weeks with GD. They let me go home for weekend the back on Monday to be induced. DD was in no hurry didn't have her til Thursday. Was ready to go home 2 days later but her birth weight dropped then the following day my mum was admitted so stayed another 2 nights for convenience!!! All up 9 nights!!! So not doing it this time!!!
Will be induced again with DD2 and be home on third day after delivery max if we have another successful vag delivery!!! Well that's the plan anyway!!!
Had private insurance in public hospital first time around this time can't afford it!!

Dd1 - born at 31 weeks, straightforward natural delivery. She was born at 5pm and I checked myself out of the ward at 9am the next morning. I stayed in the family/parent room next to NICU for 2 more nights though before finding external accommodation. (she was in for 7 weeks)
Dd2 - born at 36 weeks, straightforward natural delivery with slight grazing. Had to stay 5 days as they didn't think she was feeding well enough :-( (milk didn't come in until day 3 so we comped with formula to get her home then stopped on our first day home)
DS - wanted 6 hour checkout but he decided to arrive at 10pm so had to stay til morning and then they had to get pead clearance as DS was BBA (born before arrival) in the ambulance. Ended up being in for about 14 hours in total.

With my first it was 7 days, after a normal vaginal birth.
You see, I had the executive suite, with a Queen bed, sitting room, kitchenette, two bathrooms (!). The food was quite good, and I had no other kids to go home to.
I just couldn't bring myself to say goodbye....
With my second, same hosp, the food was ordinary, the room was ordinary, and I was outta there after 3 days.
