Far out, I am shocked. I honestly dont know what I would have done. My furious self right now says I would have called the cops to have her charged with assault, but honestly I think I would have been so upset and seeing red that I would have fumed and fumed but not actually done anything at all.
Wow, that is awful. I hope you are okay, it must have been pretty horrible seeing that happen.

I thnk i would have picked up my son, consoling him and saying loudly something along the lines of, "Don't worry honey - not all people in the world are as nasty as this one."
Even if a child - even a child of 4 hits another child on purpose...a stranger hitting them doesn't teach them anything productive.

I would have smacked her! Don't give a flying crap whats right or wrong, lay a finger on my child and you open yourself up to dealing with me.
I have done and would do it again.
I had DS and DD in a waiting room, they were happily playing with a small plastic toy at one of those little plastic tables. This woman comes in with her 2 kids, one of whom decides to approach the table and try to snatch the toy, DS pulled it back out of his grasp and the toy landed on the floor next to the woman. As DS bent down to pick it up, she reached over and slapped him saying its her sons turn.
I saw red, jumped up out of my seat and slapped her right in the face, told her to keep her hands of my child I was so angry!
Im not sorry or apologetic for it either. I dont smack my children and neither will anyone else!

Oh geez, I really don't know what I would do. but im sure my first reaction would be a very aggressive one. I just can't even imagine it though, she sounds like she has mental health issues.
So sorry that happened to you and your ds.

She would've found out how it felt to be punched hard, idgaf if my son did hit your kid it is my place to punish my son and if I didn't punch them id call the cops, my kid my place to punish.

I'd be asking the manager for surveillance footage and having her charged with assault.

I would have called the police right there in front of her. That is assault.
