In my experience, it's been a check to see how I am mentally and physically post partum. So, they generally check your tummy to see that everything is getting back to where it should be, they may check you down below to see how you're healing if you tore/had stitches and just your general physical health post partum.

They also may mention contraception and organise that, or if you're due for a pap smear etc. It's not unusual also to check how you are coping, how bub is settling into the family etc and your overall mental well being in case there's any issues.

With bub, again, it's an overall health check, so they check eyes, tummy, legs, genitals, skin etc, they may weigh and measure also.

As for Ob or Gp, I am sure if your Ob wanted to have the 6 week check they would have mentioned it? Either, either, you could see your Ob or Gp, but your Ob has your history etc, so would be a better option.

I've never known of any 6 week needles given.

as PP saidfor you 6wk check up - position of uterus by touch, contraception issues, pap smear if required, checking of any tears/csection stiching, breastfeeding issues (my ob had 5kids), possible signs of PND, weight loss since birth, I also got a booklet on healthy eating/exercise when breastfeeding, ABA booklet. She also checked my abs in case of abdominal separation that was missed by the physio.for bub - 6wks by paed - if you have oneskin colour/tone, weight, height, head circumference, feeding issues, he then checked DD's shoulder movements cos she broke her collarbone exiting me. also checked hearing/eye sight/ as well as hip dysplasia. Then was told that he would preferably never see me again with this baby. Make a list of probs that you have so you can list them off... I really want him for our next bub. he was just sooooooooo good. Both my follow up appts were booked whilst still in the hospy. cos if there is an issue they call you back earlier.

    Thanks guys

Yeh my ob didn't mention seeing me again so i thought it was odd but the pediatrician said book in with me when u go back to ob so i was confused.

I ended up booking with the gp as she is Free and ob is over $100 but now Im not sure as ob does have all my history.. But the gp would still know what they are doing so i don't know! Might do gp and if not happy will book ob after..

The Gp's fine. They will still do the same checks as your Ob would have. If you have anything out of the ordinary, just bring it up with your GP so they can check for you. As you said, you can always make an appointment with the Ob if you feel you still need to after seeing the Gp.

My 6 week app went for about 5 min, he checked my c-section wound, blood pressure, discussed contraception and gave me a referral for glucose test to check diabetes status as I had gestational diabetes.

My six week check consisted of pap smear, internal (I had 4th degree tear), discussion of contraception etc.

Bubs can now have their needles between 6-8 weeks due to the whooping cough epidemic.
