    Default NT scan results...very,very worried

I got the results of my NT scan back a few days ago and my risk of Trisomy 21 has come back as 1 in 5 I have no idea of the size of the fold as I was too shocked to ask...all I remember the doctor saying was the risk, and that the proteins were good...?? (will be asking my doctor tomorrow for more info).

I'm 37 and I knew I could be at an increased risk, but the 1 in 5 result has just floored me. I'm booked in for an amnio for a few weeks time and I am so very scared and worried about what the results may be.

For anyone who's had a similar result to mine, would you mind sharing what your outcome was with the amnio, and how did you find the amnio procedure?
    Thanks

    Hugs!!!

we had a 1 in 89 result after our NT test. Our measurement was 2.4mm
We had a CVS as i couldnt wait for the Amino and was worried what my stress could cause our bub. Had the CVS and results came back within about 36 hours and we got the all clear.

Im 23 healthy and no family history of down syndrome, so it was very much a shock. My doctor did explain that they pretty much get your blood results, age and measurment and put them into a computer and it spits out a number, and now that ive been though the further testing I have found that its quite common to get higher results. Easier said than done but try not to stress, Maybe look into a CVS if you dont feel you can wait for the Amino.

Please feel free to ask any questions as I know what its like to be in your position

Thanks for replying buboven..glad to hear you got the all clear!
Unfortunately I'm too far along for a CVS (I'm 13 weeks and 3 days) so I have to wait for the amnio in a few weeks. I'm trying not to stress, but it's on my mind constantly....just wish I knew already..

Hi. I had a 1:7 risk for 21; a 1:5 for 18 and a 1:2 for 13. I am 36 and had a very thick nuchal fold (9.2mm) which is what drove my risk so high, my bloods and everything else was fine.

Our results came back clear, which was quite the surprise.

    fingers crossed.

Thank you billymum ...I'm glad to hear your results were clear too..after the odds you were given,it must have been very tough for you waiting for the results
I saw my doctor today and the nuchal fold measurement was 2.9mm..not as high as I was expecting to hear. A little over two weeks to go until the amnio...

I too had increased risk. 1:3 for tri 21, 1:55 for tri 18 and 1:108 for tri 13. We had cvs done at 13 weeks and got the all clear too thank god. The specialist that I saw did say I had a 99.9% chance of the baby having an abnormal chromosonal problem. Mine was due to low Papp-a result though. All my doctors now believe a miracle has occurred as none of them believed I would get to this point (now 23+3). Doctors see black n white, they r often wrong. I would suggest having the amnio, but can't say what that's like as I've never had one of those. Good luck.

Thank you angenrod That's wonderful you had clear results also. Yes,I'm definitely having the amnio,I can't go through the pregnancy not knowing.
I've read soooo many stories about women having similar results to mine, and the majority of them had clear results...just goes to show that some tests/scans etc aren't always right....I just hope I'm as lucky and mine are clear too.

As it stands, your result of 1 in 5 means 80% (or 4 in 5) chance of it being OK, i.e. a majority of people with similar results to yours should have clear results. Although 1 in 5 is disconcertingly high, fingers crossed that you're one of the 80% majority too. Good luck and best wishes.
