    Default Ways to ease wheezing

We've all got a virus at the moment which involves a cough. DS2, being only five months old, has a wheeze too. I've taken him to the Dr twice this week, but the Dr assures me his lungs are clear, it's just congestion higher up and he'll be fine, no need to do anything.

I'd really like to make him more comfortable though. It worries me!! Ideas?

Hugs to you and your boys! Have you tried keeping him upright in a carrier? Vicks vapourizer whilst they sleep. We put phone books under the bed head to ease DDs breathing at night.

We had a virus like this last weekend

Thanks. Steamy showers haven't seemed to have helped, and he won't sleep unless held upright at the moment, but even now with him asleep on my chest he's wheezing away.

Vicks vapor rub says not to be used on kids under two, but have been using a tiny bit on the soles of his feet as the Dr suggested.

So stressful hearing my sweet baby wheezing want to rush him back to the Dr but suspect I'll be told the same thing

Ds is 2 but has been congested since birth and constantly wheezy from 7 weeks.

Euky bear rub, a vapouriser and saline will help if its mucous
If snotty nose a safety first snot sucker with saline was a godsend.

Ds slept side ways in my arms since birth which left him at an angle anyway which also helped

You can buy Vicks baby balm but it did sweet f all in my experience

i meant the vapourizer machine thingy - it acts like a humidifer. or you can put it on your shirt and he can then breathe it thru.

why isnt vicks supposed to be used for under 2s?

Vaporizer all the way + a little eucalyptus oil helps.

They may seem expensive (mine was $50) but the girls have used it so many times I've lost count.

I just realized they make a vaporizer. Ta! I'm not sure why they say not to use the rub on under 2's - I'm guessing the concentration might be a bit strong for them or they might rub it into their eyes?

Poor little baby I hope he starts to feel better soon.
I couldn't be without our humidifier now. It has been an absolute life saver for my girls in winter when they get coughs and colds. I also put some eucalyptus oil in it and a couple of drops of tea tree essential oil is great in the humidifier too - it's an anti-microbial.

As for vicks being too strong, I was told that the strong smell of the eucalyptus in the full strength vicks can be overpowering to bubs respiratory system and can cause breathing difficulties. I used to just put a smear on the soles of their feet, which meant that it was a good distance from their nose and mouth and therefore not too overwhelming.
