    Default Dance Off!

Out of sheer curiosity, do people really have dance offs in clubs across America? Sooo many movies show people having dance offs for no apparent reason other than to embarrass the other person/people. Does this actually occur?

When my ex used to bartend in a club, the club was a favourite for all the sailors that docked nearby. When the USS Lincoln docked here before shipping off to Afghanistan, the club was FULL of African American sailors.....one song came on and the whole dance floor was all doing the same dance for the whole song. It was WILD and amazing to watch! Never seen anything like it except for on movies. Does this stuff actually happen regularly in American clubs??

ETA: Feel free to include your stories of dance offs you've seen or been in.

As in dance 'battles' or a group dance? I've seen and done the former, lol.

Either really. Was just watching Alvin and The Chipmunks and 3 'ladies' had an issue with 3 chipmunk girls so they have a dance off. Random but ok. Then it occurred to me that there are dance offs in ALOT of American movies....so Im wondering if they are a done thing there.
