Default How do i get through tonight?

im being dragged out tonight, by people i know through my exercise class (and a friend from school) to a club style setting, where they will be drinking and i guess, doing social things?

Ive only ever been in this setting once when i was 18, and i didnt care for it much...

Its too loud for me, and i wont be drinking... So what am i meant to do?

I petrified they are going to try start conversations with me. I dont know what to say, unless asked a question >_<

There is absolutely no way to get out of it either.

How do i survive this? I have a feeling its going to go on forever and ever too.. And im relying on getting home via the school friend's relative.

    Help??

Try and relax and have fun! Easier said than done though. I'm terrible in those sorts of situations too. I try to think of conversation starters before I even go. Like questions to ask people. Most people love talking about themselves!

Good luck and I hope it isnt too awful!

I would go with a drink that looks like alcohol if you dont want to drink and are uncomfortable about peer pressure/unwarranted encouragement etc. Juice or coke in a small glass rather than a middy/softdrink glass.
If you are sitting put yourself at the end of the table so you can get up and down easy. That way if you get a bit overwhelmed you can go for a dance, to the bar, to the loo with no one really noticing.
I really dont know with the lift home. I would maybe just check taxi companies in the area and put the number in your phone?
Good luck tonight! I hope you end up really enjoying yourself and dancing the night away.

    All good advice. Thank you.

The school friend invited me and two other girls (she wont go on her own) and the others bailed late...the friend is really happy and excited. I dont want to let her down.

I feel your pain. I wouldn't be able to make myself go TBH. Loud music, alcohol and a club .. I'd rather have a tooth pulled out. I'd fake sickness or DH's sickness and promise to make it up to her by taking her out to dinner. She'll get over it and you'll save your sanity

ah, okay then. You're doing the right thing. I agree with asking others questions because it's true people like to talk about themselves!
Also, even if you don't have an interest in what they are saying, you can be interested in the person.
Someone advised me this way in my very early twenties and it has helped me through all uncomfortable social scenes and also starting new jobs etc.
It is now a long standing habit and very very effective. Quite forfilling too I might add because you learn a lot about people when you are interested in them.
Hope you have a fun night! Your friend will be very grateful to you.
