If I don't get accepted then I will seriously consider a home birth.. I thought my biggest obstacle would be dh but he's all for it.

All your info has been very useful!

    (sorry for crashing the thread!)

I planned a hb with my first, as when I got pregnant, I assumed that Oz would have lovely birthing units all over the place like NZ. Well was I in for a shock! I was informed RBWH was the only one in Brisbane, and you had to enter a ballot. I thought stuff that, I'm not letting my place of birth be decided by ballot, that's barb.aric, so decided then and there to start contacting all the local HB midwives, as I was not going to go to a hospital to have my bub.

Anyway, through my local homebirth group, I found my MW, and was cared for by her wonderfully. The labour went a little west, so we ended up transferring to hospital, http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/f...r-to-hospital/ and it was wonderful having my MW with me, as she made sure all of my choices were respected, and it ended up being very straight foward.

With my second bub, I had the same MW again, and successfully homebirthed, it was an amazing experience http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/f...-of-baby-Louie

Third time my MW was no longer practising, so I had a doula instead, and it again was simply an amazing experience. http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/f...rth-of-Marley/

I'd never birth in a hospital by choice.

No, public hospital in Darwin. He was an extremely helpful and caring ob (for the 15mins I had with him anyway!). Basically said second time will be a breeze, you should home birth! I just about fell off my chair! Granted our public hospital ward is at capacity most days so it's probably a way of keeping bums outta beds as well!
