    Use 1/3 of the amount of washing powder/liquid the bottle/package says and add 1/4 cup of bicarbonate to the wash cycle. Use 1/3 cup or less of white vinegar and ONE or TWO drops of lavender oil in the rinse cycle Your damp clothes will smell very faintly of lavender, your dry washing will smell like nothing and will require less ironing. Dry in the open air where possible

    ^^^^^ this!!! Best piece of advice for your washing machine. Mine was really smelly, I rang mum and she told me this clever trick! Works a treat!!

    And if you use powder rather than liquid if you dissolve the wading powder in boiling water before you add it to your wash, it's better for your clothes
    Do u dilute the vinegar in the 2 liters of water first or just but the two cups directly in the machine on a hot wash

    I personally just chucked the vinegar into the detergent spot and hit run =)
