I have heard sterilized males are the most affectionate. I have two sterilized females though, and seriously, as I was typing the start of this sentence one of them just came and "asked" if she could jump on my lap.
They are not overly snuggly, but one is definitely moreso then the other... the other one can be very clingy though, following me around the house.
I love my beautiful girls!

I have had 4 female cats desexed and owned lol
Mecha, My first is a tabby, she loves attention but mostly does not demand it and will protest if forced to have attention
Pandora, My second is a calico she is a b!tch, she will climb on me and Ds 20 times a night trying to wake us up, she is surly and hates everyone except fob and I.
Sona, lives with my sister as Pandora attacked her the entire ten months I had her, apricot in colour but was born a bitfor feral (outdoor, no human contact for 6 weeks or so) she in elusive in nature, not a human loving cat at all and spends 99.9 percent of her time not interacting with humans
Missy, is a ginger and white tabby female, a stray, she showed up on my door a step june last year and was about 6 months old, she is alot like my other tabby except she tolerates being held etc against her will (guess cos she was a stray and didn't know the 'good life?) She will purr and snuggle after you initiate it but isn't forceful (she lives outside )
I dont think gender has alot to do with it as growing up I had only toms and found the variation in temperament was true with them also.
I would LOVE another inside kitten but Pandora would murder it

I think I generally prefer the girls, although growing up we had a male who was desexed late in life but still was amazingly docile and affectionate.

I have a neutered male and I only wish he was more cuddly and not a 10kg monster

Neutered males are more smoochie. I've had females before and they're more independant. Braxtonsmum my kitty looks like yours (see avatar). Loves tuxedo cats, they're so full of character. Mine talks back all the time.
