    Default Making yogurt

    My baby is cow's milk protein intolerant. Probably goats too. So I cannot eat any dairy, as it passes through into my breast milk and makes her sick. But I miss yogurt.

    So my question is; how do I make breast milk yogurt without the cow's milk starter? I usually make it in an Aldi yogurt maker with the easy yo sachets. But they contain cow's milk.

    And, cos all that pumping would be tedious, can I use rice milk or soy instead or does it need the whey or casein or something? I have no idea how yogurt works, obviously!

    Somebody enlighten me, please?

    Is she intolerant of soy too? Both my kids with CMPI have not been able to have soy either. I think rice milk would not have enough fat in it.
    I think I've seen links for coconut yoghurt on pinterest.
    I'm really missing cheese. My DD was 12 months old before I could have dairy again, DS is almost 5 months and his reflux does not seem quite so severe. We're going to start weaning him off meds once he has a whole month without any reflux flare ups, and I think once he's off the meds I'll do a dairy challenge.

    It seems you need a starter- it mentions using a probiotic (maybe dairy free inner health plus) or maybe you could get a vegan one from a health food shop?

    Thanks! I had no idea how dairy reliant I was til I couldn't have any. She threw up the only time I tried her on soy yogurt and she randomly reacts to breastfeeds. Coconut yogurt sounds great though. I shall give it a go.
