Default What do you buy a 1 year old girl for a birthday?

One of my friends has invited me to her DD's first birthday and I am looking for something nice/unique etc for a present. I know most people will buy clothes or toys but just wondering if anyone else has any good ideas?

I get personalised plates for first birthdays... there is a lady on facebook that does them and they don't cost a fortune! So cute with whatever details you want put on it such as name, date and so forth and she paints a gorgeous picture on it

I bought my goddaughter a gorgeous custom doll on Etsy. It was $30, soft and tactile and she loves it to this day.

ETA: I also bought my cousin the entire Snugglepot and Cuddlepie collection and another cousin the whole series of The Faraway Tree books by Enid Blyton. I like passing on my favourites

I'm a book fan, I love it when the kids get books and I buy them a few. I've been collecting all the fairy tales, atlas (kid friendly) dinosaurs, fairies, animal books, pop ups etc. my kids love the interactive ones where they can open a door etc.

You can get beautiful personalized night lights with their names. Or simply colours does cute rugby jumpers with names and birth year on the back, they look like American footy jumpers
For my DSs 1st birthday, our fave presents (and his) was a scuttlebug bike, a cozy coupe car, books, and a really cute money box (penny scallan) they are all things that he 'grew' into, so lasted him much longer than a month or so.

A bike/trike or some kind of ride on thing! My friends twins just turned 1 and everyone bought the boy bikes and the girl dolls - she spent the entire party riding her brothers little bikes!
