My family and partner's family all live at least several hours away, so when they visit they stay for a few days. I quite enjoy my partner's parents staying as they are very helpful around the house and entertain my son. I normally dread my dad coming to stay as he's very full on, talks about himself the whole time and asks 1000 overbearing questions.

DH and I lived away from ALL family for about 10 years, so I really loved it when someone wanted to come visit for the weekend (it was rare).
I'm a very private person and hate people in my space, but for some reason I loved weekend visits. I always had plenty of notice and was prepared.
My most favourite was when my Brother, SIL and the kids would visit. I loved every draining moment of having them visit! They completely took over my house, but never in an imposing way. They brought their own food, bedding and entertainment. It was always fun having them stay.
I find that visits are somewhat annoying now that I live back near family. Especially when people just swing by unannounced.
One morning a few weekends ago, I was still in my pjs half asleep with my back to the door and BIL walks in.... didn't even knock! Scared the crap out of me!

Might be selfish but I love my family coming to stay... Thats about all. But even then I want the house back after a little while. Its not that DPs family arent great because they are great people its just Im a pain in the butt to live with and like things odne my way. My mum, step dad, dad, brother all know how I like my life and I am happy for them to stay. Anyone else and I do get frustrated with it.
Man I sound like a cow.

I love when my brother and his wife come to stay. They're the only people who ever do, so I don't know how I would be with anyone else. I think I'd be ok with my in laws staying too if they needed to.
I do definitely like my space though and couldn't deal with more than a couple of nights stay. I'd struggle if they tried to hang about.

We adore people coming to stay. Family and friends alike. Some are high maintenance and generally after a week we're keen for our space back, but we love it when people visit and stay.
Our old house here in Sydney was really too small for guests though which was awful. We had people stay, but it wasn't ideal.
My in-laws are coming down soon and not staying with us. That is because MIL is in high dudgeon over me standing up for myself when she made rude comments about only children. FIL is a fabulous guest though.
