Just wondering if anyone has ever done a double ovidrel trigger during their IVF cycles? I'm gearing up to cycle again, and although I have had 10-12 follicles in both of my previous cycles, I only get 2-4 eggs. I realise it's probably because the others are stuck to the follicle wall and crap quality, but just in case they're not and need some extra assistance, wondered whether a double ovidrel trigger may do the trick. Some research I was reading suggests that Ovidrel is not as potent as Pregnyl etc and perhaps double triggers should be used for the final maturing.
Also wondered whether a double shot would overcook mature eggs and whether the timing of EPU is different than if you do one trigger shot?
Would be interested to hear from anyone who has done this!!
Many thanks and babydust to you all.

Double Ovidrel Trigger??

wishmeluck - might be one to question your clinic with if you are worried. However, I used ovidrel once ages ago on a cancelled cycle. I had over 12 follicles and was suppose to do double trigger for epu, I think it bcs there were that many but when the cycle got cancelled beforehand I was told to use one trigger, then I didn't get my period when I was suppose to 2 weeks later and they did a scan to find I didn't ovulate all the follicles so had to trigger again to get rid of the rest of the follicles. For this reason I always asked for pregnyl as I didn't trust the ovidrel. I am about to do a cycle for bub #2 and haven't cycled for 2 years and now my clinic only use ovidrel so I am nervous.

Thank you for your reply! I'll ask my Clinic about it, but suspect they'll just say no everything is okay as it is. They're not the most progressive in terms of thinking outside the box and tend to have more of a cookie cutter approach where everyone gets the same protocol. Doesn't hurt to ask though Good luck for your next cycle!!

Apparently Ovidrel is not weight dependent.
On day of trigger, how many follicles were greater than 14mm, if the number is similar to what eggs you got, trigger should be fine. If the amount is a lot different, I would be asking for either Pregnyl or Ovidrel x 2.
Follicles have to be a certain size to actually get an egg or a mature one anyway, 14mm at trigger should do it.
In my opinion with the people I know who have done it, double ovidrel should not hurt.

January cycle I did a double trigger. I have a history with immature eggs. FS gave me ovidrel because there was a world wide shortage of pregnyl at the time. Then I mentioned I had a vial of 1500 iu pregnyl in my fridge and he said to use both. Unfortunately it didn't make a difference because I had 12 eggs and 7 immature

The reason I'm wondering whether it may be helpful for me is because although I had at least 10 mature follicles over 16mm and estrogen was above 6500, I only had 2-4 eggs and the outcome didn't match what the embryologist was expecting on either cycle. Seige, I'm a lot older than you and unfortunately when you're up around my age many of the eggs are chromosomally abnormal and stick to the follicle wall instead of releasing and being able to be retrieved at egg pick up. What confuses me is that those eggs that may have stuck to the follicle wall shouldn't have been releasing the amount of estrogen that would suggest a health mature egg, ie between 800-1000 per egg. The estrogen levels I had "suggested" that I had at least 6 reasonable quality eggs. Anyway, something to ask the Clinic about. Sorry if I've worried anyone. Like most things IVF there are differing opinions out there amongst specialists and I was hoping someone who had been through it could give me the low down. Anyone pick up the scent of desperation in my post?

Siege jumping on this one a bit late but I have done 2 x trigger shots last night and was told it goes off weight as well from my clinic (Monash). I was questioning them to make sure it was correct

I've just had (10 mins ago), a double shot of Ovidrel. Our cycle has been cancelled due to the fact that I've only got three follicles, measuring 22, 18 and 15mm. We're going to do timed intercourse for three nights, starting tomorrow night. Fingers crossed this works
