Are there any employers (or anyone responsible for the hiring and firing) out there? Just wondering what you, as an employer, think when an applicant comes in with visible tattoo(s)? Would it be a mark against them? Does it matter what industry the job is in? Or what the tattoo looks like?
Other "tattoos in the workplace" experiences/thoughts/opinions welcome :-)

I think it depends on the particular workplace. And trade to an extent.
My employer himself has visible tattoos.

I worked for jbhifi for 2 years and I have a half sleeve....
But they are a lot more relaxed than other places.

My DH works in a lab but is sometimes a courier as well...he has a visible tattoo n there havent been any problems. I think it depends on the work place but also on the tattoo... as in I dont think they would approve if you walked in with a very offensive tattoo that was visible lol HTH

Where I work we are not to have any visable tattoos. They must be covered. Same with piercings. A girl here had to take her lip piercing out because they wanted it to be covered with something.
It is all in the Polcy handbook.

When my uncle worked for the family business he wore long sleeve tips year round to cover his full arm tats. We have 2 staff who have small visible tattoos, not overly fussed about those, but my grandfather would be unlikely to hire someone with lots of visible tattoos or piercings.

Depends on the workplace but I have never worried about (I've employed several teachers with visible but non offensive tattoos).
But my husband has full sleeves on both arms so I personally don't have any problems with tatts. I know some people do though.

We are in a corporate environment so visible tattoos are a no-no. Everyone is in suits though so not really an issue!

I was an employer a couple of years ago and it didn't bother me if someone had a visible tattoo provided that it was no offensive.
I have a tattoo that can sometimes be seen depending on what I wear and I have never exeperienced any discrimination by employers.

Tattoos are pretty common in my work place, so it's a non-issue. In fact it's pretty uncommon NOT, to have tattoos. We wear formal gear regularly too, with no requirement to cover them up.
I've never understood it. It's ok for us to do it because it's "normal", but most other places it's not acceptable? (I'm not a prison inmate by the way lol).
