    All the best for tomorrow

It is nerve wracking for sure. I had a CVS and it was comparable to a pap smear. It's the emotional side of things that is really tough.

I recommend paying the extra to get the results quicker (FISH test). I got my results the next day.

Thankyou I'm not sure we would qualify for the FISH results although I will ask.
Did you have yours done through the stomach?

There was no needle with my CVS - amniocentisis is when they put a needle into your belly.

I had a CVS almost 2 years ago, my placenta was anterior (at the front) so they gave me a needle through my stomach. They do a quick ultrasound first to re-check for markers and check postition, then using the ultrasound to minimise chance of getting baby they guide the needle. My experiance was fine, it was done with a local so it was only a little sting and I didnt even need a bandaid after emotionally was the hardest, I had a 1 in 32 chance of downs and they gave me FISH results the next day then 2 weeks later my final results. Thankfully my DD is a healthy little 19 month old. I hope this helps, hopefully your experiance goes as smoothly as mine did.

    How was yours done?

I'm expecting twins but we lost our 18 mth old son to a very rare genetic disease a year ago , so they will be testing for that.

I hope all went well for you yesterday. My CVS felt similar to a pap smear - the specialist put a needle into the placenta via the cervix and extracted fluid for testing. I didn't know until now that they do actually perform some CVS's with a needle through the abdomen.

I am so sorry you lost your son and I hope that your new bubba is healthy
