Planning our first trip to Thailand at Christmas. google has revealed a million hotels so need some recommendations for child-friendly hotels for a 2 and 4 year old. Looking at 4-5 star. Something with great pools, including wading pools, and maybe a playground. Free or cheaper food for kids would be great too.
Also, can parents generally visit the kids club with the kids generally? (Mine are too young to leave them there but they'd probably have fun there!)
And any recommendations on which area to stay in?

Look at Merlin Beach Hotel. It is 10 minutes out of Patong Beach and has a free shuttle in to town all day and for some of the evening.
It is really great! Great kids area, general area and honeymoon area, 5 restaurants and I am pretty sure a kids club.
