    Default Fertility tests?

Me (29yrs) and my dh have a darling 18 month old daughter conceived fairly easily. I think it took a couple of months.

We have been TTC for the last 7 months with no luck.

I had a chemical pregnancy in July 2011, a miscarriage in August 2011 at 4w2d, and just in Jan 2012 had another miscarriage at 5w3d.

My cycles are on time every month (30 days) and I tend to ovulate days 17-19 each month.

We dtd sometimes every second day from cd10. Some months every day for a week (ovulating midway). But still every month I get my period and wonder why..

Anyway to cut to the chase, can I get tests, x rays, blood tests etc or will they turn me away because I already have a child, haven't been trying for a year and haven't had 3 miscarriages in a row?

I'm sorry you're going through this. I am in a similar situation. I have a DS5 who I conceived and carried with no issues. I have been trying for six months for #2 with my new husband. He has two kids also.

I have had a mc at 5+2 and a chemical pregnancy in this time. We have just fallen pregnant again, I am 5+2 and praying this baby will stick with us.

My OB is an early intervention guy and we have had the following tests, which he started after the first miscarriage:

*Cardiolipin antibodies (me) to see if my blood clots too easily. This causes early miscarriage because the blood can't get to the baby. I was borderline so I am now injecting Clexane daily for the remainder of the pregnancy.

*Thyroid function test - low function can cause issues.

*Progesterone test to see if I am ovulating (I am).

*I was supposed to get a test where they inject a dye into your tubes to see if there are any blockages. I fell pg before I was able to get it done.

*DH had a sperm analysis. The results weren't that great - hopefully this pregnancy will have a good outcome regardless of that.

You can shop around OBs until you find one who will work with you in the way you want. It's not cheap but for us it was worth it - I needed to be doing something, I am not a girl who can just 'wait and see'!

I hope you find some answers soon or better yet get that sticky

I'm sorry you're having so much trouble.

I'ld get the referral from your GP, it can be a 6 month wait to get in to a fertility specialist sometimes, and then a couple months to get the testing done. If you think you might have issues with your GP you can always slightly exaggerate/ be vague about the amount of time you've been trying.

I think it's called secondary infertility if theres trouble conceiving subsequent children, not unusual.

Our GP gave us a referral and ordered some preliminary tests so we had some idea about thus issues before our appointment with the FS (fertility specialist).

    Good luck.

Thank you everyone. These replies are really helpful.

Just feel a bit lost. Normal cycles, ovulation signs, dtd regularly etc but still no baby

We've decided to see how we go this month. If not successful we'll go to the dr together and discuss whatever tests to do, my husband says he'll do whatever it takes ie. tests etc too. We are both in really good health but I'm going to start taking blackmores conceive well gold this month, see if they help. Or else I have some Blackmores pregnancy gold lying around - can I use these while I'm TTC?

Should have added I had all these tests done via my regular OB/GYN, not a fertility specialist. He has referred us to an IVF FS if we need to go any further.

My clinic encouraged folate or pregnancy vit while TTC. I was also told to take vit E, increase uterine blood flow. Your DH can take Menevit, it increases motility and function of sperm.

I had my GP appointment yesterday. Our dr was very understanding. He's our family dr and has seen me through all 3 miscarriages and was happy to get us a referral to a fertility specialist. He agreed that something could be up (3 in a row isn't really normal even though we've only been TTC for 8 months).

We have an appointment booked at Concept fertility (Perth) in 2 weeks time. I'm really looking forward to getting some tests done and *hopefully* getting some answers.
