Plj77 I really hope you prove me wrong but we too were told all those things and waisted 1.5 years and $10k on a reversal only to do ivf anyway and the only difference it made was the sperm extraction! But if you're prepared to do ivf as well from the start you hopefully won't be as disheartened as I was. Wish you all the best x

On the other side we got a call from dr woolcott in newcastle about a reversal. He gave me higher chances of success via reversal. As long as i am all good. He said from memory 80%+ successful reversal, 40% pregnancy rate. He thinks ivf isnt worth trying first as would take quite a few rounds and damage the vas from retrieval making a reversal less successful if we required one. He doesnt do retrieval at the time of surgery he said the surgery becomes much more complicated and can damage the vas making the success rate much lower. He said reversal is worth doing first.

Im pretty confident with what he was saying, matches what ive read. The time off work will be a issue thou. Dr said 2 weeks after asking him what he did. However paperwork said no strenuous activities for 3-4 weeks so i queried it. Was told get a medical certificate after surgery for 10 days hence the 2 weeks, everyone heals differently so would depend but recommended take it easy for 3-4 weeks.

Sounds to me like 4 weeks off is what is needed, wished they would just say as if we took just 2 weeks off then we would have issues financially as well as with his employer. He is in a heavy lifting job.

He said they can do the reversal as early as july!! Totally blown away. Latest date in decmeber is the 11th. So the date is going to be an issue. He gets 2-3 weeks off over xmas, 11th would be 2 weeks before they shut down, very busy period for work but would give him enough time to recover.

And i am looking at seeing a fertility specialist within his clinic regarding myself. After the ultrasound ill grab a referal. Hubby doesn't want to book in till i get checked first. Worried about paying for it and me having something wrong.

Just wished my ultrasound was later in my cycle, as the one done late showed issues but the one done in the beginning of my cycle showed nothing. Would like it to be accurate. But i guess i need it asap
Hon we went through Woolcottt but my husband had reversal 20 yrs ago so low chance of success and didn't work. I was 39, waited a year, the. Started ivf. Have had 9 unsuccessful cycles.

What's your AMH? Could you afford to extract eggs now (maybe two rounds). If we had our time again I would've gone straight into ivf.

    What's your ultrasound for?

I don't want to scare you but don't wait til Dec we did the same, put it off til Dec so hubby could have time off, then waited a year.

If AMH not higher than normal I wouldn't wait!! Ideal would be to be able to freeze eggs (but they reckon need about 25 to be able to be of any use), then vasectomy reversal asap, if doesn't work get straight to ivf.

Use a very good surgeon for testicular aspiration like Dr Lok (Also with Genea like Woolcott).

    Where are you located?

Ultrasound showed at least 2 fibroids,

    __________________________________________________ ___
a right anterior fibroid 13mmx9mm and a larger right anterior fibroid 22mmx22mm. In the uterus. Uterus measures 89x51x54mm.

The endometrial echo is homogenous, measures 5.5mm

Appearance of right ovary is normal, volume estimated at 11cc.
Appearance of left ovary is normal, volume estimated at 5cc.
No free fluid and no adnormal adnexal masses,
    __________________________________________________ __

Only says the two fibroids at the bottom in the comments so im assuming the rest is normal. Dr said the fibroids wont affect fertility, but ringing the gyno clinic about it to see if they were going to redo the failed hystoscopy.

Got my referal to a fertility specialist.. yey..

dr highly recommended dr woolcott the surgeon we already chose for the reversal. My Dr has 2 kids from seeing dr woolcott and loves him.. such a relief to know we have chosen well..

My gp also ordered a heap of blood tests for the specialist, i had them today.

    FSH follicle stimulating hormone

    Oestradiol

Not sure what all of it is, but googled some of it, sounds like he covered everything.

    Calling specialist now

    Sorry for the long post

    Hi mummanow

Ultrasound was because the JHHospital failed my hystoscopy they wanted it before deciding if they were going to redo. Was because i get very heavy periods, cant leave the house for a day or two and sometimes major pain with them. My iron levels drop to a very low level borderline needing injections as a result but gp was hoping to find the cause and fix rather than doing injections all the time.

Dont know my AMH. My gp ordered a heap of bloods as per my new comment. And booking into dr erin fuller who works with dr woolcott in their newcastle office. We are in Newcastle.

What is testicular aspiration? Is that the sperm retrieval? Dr woolcott wouldnt do the retrieval when doing reversal, he says it makes it more complicated, can damage the tubes and lowers the success rate as i asked if he would do it to save time if we needed it later.

As soon as i get the clear from dr fuller we will speak to his work about a date. Was going to give them an option on if ealier or december as they need him there, he is the only one on wages to do that job. They would need to hire a subcontractor for the time off. So it really complicates the timing. Plus there is something importance we need to take care of first, prob 2 months or so.

They had a brochure at the gps for primary ivf in sydney, completely bulk billed, thinking if this fails due to the cost we will pay for the reversal being around $6500 we might need to go there to save money afterwards if we need ivf
