Geeze! Don't beat yourself up over it!! These things happen and as long as YOU know that you did your best to keep your home environment safe then it doesn't matter what your mum thinks.
You did the right things after her little accident and I assume you are looking for any of the signs. There isn't any more you can do, other than next time smokers come over do a sweep after they leave

Trust me. It wont be the last thing your child puts in their mouth.
I have 2 kids and my second son puts everything in their mouth.
He put wood glue in his mouth. I didn't panic, just wash his mouth out and gave him a drink. I called poison line and they said the same thing just to watch out for symptom and call an ambulance.
My parents were here and said if it was my DS1 i would of had him at emergancy in a flash. And you know they are right.
I just am better prepared now and know when to panic.

It's ok. Ur not a bad mum. I'm sure she will be fine. If you started a thread and asked people some of the mistakes or bad things their kids got up to while they took a quick moment to go to the loo, you would soon see its happened to us all. No one is perfect but caring and feeling concerned shows just how great a mother you are! Hugs

I used to spend quiet night shifts reading the poisons book in emerg. The lists of things parents would report their child ate was amazing. Polystyreine balls are popular as are cleaning fluids, dishwasher tablets and berries from the park plants. Cigarettes are most harmful if its the smoked butts as the toxins are concentrated in the filters. Toddlers have been known to eat whole ashtrays full, which makes them very sick. And the dregs from glasses on new years day can be pretty dangerous too.

kids out everything in their mouths.
I think a no smoking in the house would be a good policy.
Don't beat yourself up.

Oh hun, no one in their right mind would judge you for this. You cannot have eyes in the back of your head. Like the others have said, these things happen. All you can do is make sure they dont happen again.

You are not a bad mother! God, when my daughter was 8 months olf she ate the contents of the ash tray her father left on the ground. When she was about 18 months old she ate half a full pack of my smokes- still dont know how she got them because they were in my room and the door was closed.
The amount of things she has eaten that she shouldnt have- smokes, medication (didnt know she could reach it), professional carpet cleaning solution (as in the stuff the professionals use, not the stuff you buy at the supermarket).... she is still alive. Of course it scares the hell out of you. But it doesnt make you a bad mother!!

Oh hugs that doesn't make you a bad mum at all! Kids will eat anything that looks interesting!!
I once saw DD trying to blow on a smoke in an attempt to mimick her dad or whoever else she may have seen smoke!
Again I've NFI where it came from yet there it was! I took it off her and we laughed it off as I didnt want her to think she had been naughty!
How is your bub now? Any symptoms? I'd say worst case is she'll probs just have a yuck taste in her mouth lol.
As for your mum-sounds like something my mum would do. I just either ignore her or simply don't tell her.
