Wow it's interesting how it varies state to state.
in wa you do the theory test for Ls then do as much driving as you can until you or the instructor thinks your ready, then you do your practical driving test to get onto phase 2 Ls and get your log book. Do 25 hrs and wait 6mnths (i was exempt from the waiting period because I've had my Ls since before they changed the laws) then do the hazard perception test to get red Ps. Red for six months then straight to green for the remainder of the 2yrs.
