I would probably get the pest control done.
While I don't use any insect spray, baits etc, and happily share my house with huntsmen and other run-of-the-mill spiders and bugs, I think I would draw the line at redbacks as they could be fatal to my son.
In saying that, I've never seen one. Maybe they are not common in Queensland?
