Default Is this rude or helpful?

So ds' 1st bday is in 8 weeks, and as i have been confirming addresses to send invites for his party, many people have been asking me what to get him.

I was thinking maybe I could send a little note with the invite saying "a present is not expected as your presence is enough, however if you would like to bring something we would appreciate a book, size 2 clothes or anything musical"

Would you find it rude or helpful?? Personally I'd find it useful as I'd rather get something they need then something to be thrown in the back of the cupboard... But I'm not sure if that's just me.

    So what do you think?

Helpful. You never know what little kids need or want, and when you think of clothes you have no idea what size to get. So that'd help me cos if you didn't, I'd probably just ring and ask anyway.
