Default High HCG levels but ok PAPP-A and NT scan... 1 in 28 chance of DS

    Hi
Just wanted to ask if anyone has been in this situation and had a good outcome??????

I had my NT scan last Thursday and got 1 in 28 chance of Downs due to my age (40 next mnth) and my HCG results. Had a CVS today and would love to hear some good stories about people in a similiar situation??

    HCG: 5.4 MoMM
    PAPP-A: 0.999 MoMM
    Nuchal Fold: 2.1

    TIA

Depends what you consider a good outcome?

Not sure if you posted a similar question in the pregnancy forum but just in case its a different poster I'll answer again.

At my NT scan all my numbers were within range (the bloods etc), my skinfold thickness was at the higher end of the range but not considered abnormal. At 37 years old I was given a 1:12 chance of DS. Nuchal Fold: 2.76

So my "good story" is that my little girl has DS which is nothing more than extra chromosome and a whole lot more 'cute' than a standard issue child.

Speaking as someone that has been there, I totally get the anxiety and of course you want your baby to be healthy and 'normal'. I dont know if you've considered termination of you get a diagnosis you're not expecting - thats your business and your right. But as someone that got an 'unexpected' diagnosis and yeah I was sh*t scared and thought of all the negatives about having a child with ds, but I can also tell you that what I thought at the time was so outdated its just not relevant anymore. I was lucky enough to (online) meet some mothers in a similar position and they enlightened me. It just prepares you for the potential. I guess what I'm trying to say is, a positive diagnosis is not the end of the world, its the beginning of one that you weren't expecting but is full of the same joy and love and smiles and cuddles as any other baby.

Hi I understand what you are going thru. I had a 1:30 risk of Downs Syndrome based on a high free HCG but normal PAPP-A and nuchal fold. I was 29 at the time. I had an amnio at 16 weeks which came back normal.

I think the worst bit is waiting for the results. Good luck with everything, I hope all is ok for you. Xo

    Hi,
I have been in a similar situation, i cant remember my HCG but i think it was 47.6... not sure if that sounds right or not, Papp a was 0.86, fold at 2.4mm and im 23, we got a risk of 1 n 89 for down syndrome. I got told it was my bloods and fold that caused the high risk as at my age i should be getting 1 in 16,000.

However 3 days after we got the results we had a CVS and we got a call 36hrs later with intrim results that there was no chromosonal abnormalities.

Im now 17 weeks and all seams fine

Also you can find out the sex, which i guess is a bonus of having to go through all the stress and waiting.

Good luck, always here if you need a chat

I was 40 when I had my boy and my NT was 1:1050 so i think it is more the results than your age. Just trying to give you something to compare it to but I hope all goes well xxx
