Default So, tell me about Mackay!

Yes... There is a big 'possibility' not so much an 'if' but a 'when' that we will be moving to Mackay for work, within the next 3-6 months...

    So, tell me about Mackay!

    :-)

We were looking to move to Mackey, the rents are high and cost of living is higher, well higher than the gc.. Think because a lot of miners live up there.

    Have you found work?

DHs company is looking at expanding and they have the work (because of the mines, there is a demand for more)... all of our moving/living expenses will be paid for... the longest we will be there is 3 years, and then we will come back 'home'...

Mackay is a nice and quieter to the city life that you experience in Sydney, I moved up here from just outside of Sydney a few years ago now, and yes while it can be expensive to live, I also enjoy being able to go to a beach or the park and still having some personal space.

Rentals can be expensive, and often can be hard to find, we found it easier to get the local trading books and get a rental through the owner than going through a real estate agent.

If you do want to buy there are lots of options and once again depending on what you are looking for can be reasonably priced, wither second hand or home and land packages, as there are constantly new estates going up everywhere and can start around $390k.

I know that there is Some stuff for the kids, and plenty of mothers groups, and there is also a nice lagoon and a play center and the pycy does like a big play group every day. Not to well into these options as I'm back at work full time and don't get to do much with DD.

Day care can be a challenge, depending on children's ages, I struggled at the end of last year to get another place but eventually got one, if DD was 12 months older I would have had heaps of options.

Good luck with the move, if you want to know anything else just ask.
