    Default Quick MCN washing question...

The instructions on my Itti Bittis say to wash in enzyme free powder. Is this really necessary?

    TIA!

Hey hun - yep! Is it the first time you're washing them? are they clean or dirty?

You need to use enzyme free powder (look up rockin green or similar) because otherwise the enzymes build up in the nappy and lower the absorption which means the nappy can't hold as much and will leak, once this build up has happened its really hard to strip it out and you've pretty much wasted your money on the nappies.

If they are brand new and you're just washing them as you have to when you first get them, Id just wash with warm water and NO powder at all.

    hope that helps!

Thanks for your help! Yes, they're brand new.

I might order some Rockin Green... in the meantime is there anything you'd recommend that I can just find in the supermarket?

    Hi there!

I use EcoStore laundry powder which you can get at Woolworths - it can be pricey ($8 a box) but they often have it on special and you use such a small amount it goes a long way. They had a deal a while ago where if you 'liked' them on facebook they sent you a voucher for 50% off - then Woolly's had them on sale as well so I got a very cheap box. If I'm doing a small load I probably only use a tablespoon or less at a time.

I use it for the nappies only, and I use Earth Choice laundry liquid for my clothes. I did ask a woman who runs a nappy store here if I could use that for the nappies as it says it's pretty much 'everything free' on the label, but she said people had had problems with build up from that too.

Hope this helps! If you look at the Itti Bitti FB page they have previous conversations/threads saved and they can point you in the direction of the ones about washing specifically if you need any more info! Hope this helps.
