My baby book sent to me before my first apt says the 18-20 week scan is the only must have. US at 12 weeks is optional depending on your age and other risk factors.
In saying this I've already had three and am due for my 18-20 US in 3 weeks. I've had a UTI at 7 weeks and an unexplained brown discharge at 16 weeks.
Some drs and hospitals are different. I'm a public patient can't afford private.

The only scheduled one is the 18-20 morphology scan, the 12 week scan is optional if you want to Check for disorders

I think it depends in if there are any concerns or if they miss something I had heaps of them I had one at 6 weeks, 12 weeks for the downs test, 20 weeks, 22 weeks (coz they missed something), 24 weeks (coz they still weren't happy with the results coz bubs wasn't giving them what they needed), 28 weeks (I'm not sure why I had that one) but then at 30 weeks, 34weeks 38weeks 39weeks 40weeks (because I had excess fluid and I am overweight so I think they were keeping an eye on the baby's health, and making sure the fluid didn't go up to much, nothing wrong with me or baby though) then at 41 weeks and a few days after (I went late). So that's 13 that I had. I wasn't complaining though it meant I got to see the baby more. :-) wasn't able to get a picture at every one coz I had some horrible stenographers. One almost made me cry and another totally ignored everything my husband asked, I understand they are doing a job and need to get it done but they don't have to be rude, they weren't ignoring me, just him. I had done pretty good ones too though.

A radiographer conducts ultrasounds.
A stenographer transcribes from dictation.

Depends on your Ob. My Ob gets all of his ladies to have a 12 week, 19 week and 34 week ultrasound.

I had a 12 week, 20 week and a 34 week scan with a sonographer at the ultrasound clinic.
I also had a scan from my OB at every single appointment I had with him.
