The problem OP is that there is an open interpretation of what smacking is. Had you made more choices such as I tap not hit, etc you would have gotten the more defined responses that you later asked for. You gave a yes no option and people have used their own interpretation.
I knew someone that had a child that hit and bit everyone and when he would bite she would bite him so hard it would leave marks.Needless to say he kept biting and she never seemed to make the obvious correlation that she was asking him not to hit and bite but then hitting and biting him when he did so.
Poor little kid must have been so confused![]()

I say similar in these threads all the time.
Sure, I don't hit my partner, he doesn't hit me. He also doesn't send me to time out, make me go to bed early, ban me from seeing friends for a certain period of time, cut off my income (for kids, pocket money), etc etc. The thing is, our relationships as adults is different from my relationship with my daughter... who I am supposed to raise. It's not my job to raise DP. If he does something that makes me angry, I tell him about it (or sulk, and hope he'll figure out... that's more likey... lol). His only punishment is dealing with my foul mood as a result of his "poor behaviour."

I knew someone who would shove their child's hand in a hot cup of coffee to teach them not to touch or go near her coffee

Hitting your child teaches them that they can hit others if they do the wrong thing!

Lol... What happened to the no judgement people?!
Yes i will smack my friends and families children that are in my care, as do their parents.
I have know the childrens parents my whole life, or for many years... Being the close friends they are, as i said i wouldnt go around smacking other peoples kids.
Surprised with the comments received from a no judgement thread!
Sarah :-)

Nonkne had to just answer yes or no, I said that it would do. I'm fairly new here and I didn't want anyone thinking I was starting a big smacking debate to stir the pot so to speak
The reason I just did yes or no is in my opinion if you smack occasionally, you still smack so I would consider that a yes, regardless of how often.
A tap and a smack to me are the same. They both inflict an amount of pain to gain a result (being slightly or quite painful)
It's interesting to see the responses!
