My son is 22months old and is normally not a bad sleeper, still wakes once throughout the night for a bottle but thats fine by me.
The problem im having is lately, he refuses to sleep at night. Last night for example....
Put him to sleep, totally normal, willingly goes down... wakes up 1 hour later, I go in to see if he wants a bottle but he screams when I leave, like shaking turning himself inside out screaming! so I bring him out, and he is happy, playing, laughing (very tired mind you).... try to put him to bed again, same thing, I lay on his floor... screams, then just stands there- I was laying there for an hour, WOULD NOT GIVE IN....
So my partner stays up with him in an attempt to wear him out... WAS STILL UP AT 2AM!!!! (Usually he is in bed by 6pm)... Bring him in bed with us- PLAYTIME... Took forever to lay down, at about 3.30am he fell asleep, then was up again at 6am.
He has never been able to fall asleep anywhere but in his own bed, if he would sleep in our bed id be ok with it just to keep peace, but he wont.
I dont know what to do.. part of me thinks maybe he has a tummy ache, or head ache or something, but when he is up he is happy and fine!!!
I find when I go in to soothe him then walk back out I make it worse... im outa ideas.

Yeah he does, usually 1.5-2 hours..... I just put him down when he is tired... and its the same at night too, just put him to bed when he is tired which is usually no later than 7pm.... we have a fairly good routine too.

My DD went through this recently, she wasnt sick, her room was the same, she was comfortable temp wise but still would wake a couple of hours after going down crying and then screaming.
I use to bring her out into the darkened lounge room and sit. She would cry, roll on the floor kicking and carrying on - holding her made it worse so I left her til she came up to me and settled down. She started trying to play with things and I would sit up for hours with her til she was that tired I put her back to bed.
Then I started not taking her out of her room, she still screamed and carried on. I just sat on the end of the bed and didnt engage. Once she settled down she layed on the bed and I would pat her back - just as she was about to fall asleep she would jump up and play with my hair or try and stick her fingers up my nose (eeew) basicly fighting the sleep.
In the end I said enough, sleep time and would leave the room. She would cry for a bit then silence!
All I can suggest is limit your interactions, keep the room dark and the time boring.
I dont know if that helps but a after a couple of weeks of this she stopped and has gone back to sleeping through the night I dont know if was seperation anxiety or her teeth hurt ? I have nooo idead but it stopped!
I hope it stops for you soon too

Thanks for the advice... I'll see how we go. It's so strange for him so I'm also thinking he may be teething. It's so hard to know what to do, and what is the right thing to do!!
