Lol I probably sound stupid but this city is huge I grew up in a town with 20,000 people and went to uni in NZs second biggest city with only 300,000ish people so it's taking a bit to work everything out etc when we don't know anyone here...
But thanks for the advice![]()

We had a similar problem when we first started trying to rent, except I ran my own (successful) business and DP earned over $100k!
We had no rental history (both owned previously) and my accountant was family so that didn't look good either!
We eventually lied and wrote a letter stating my mother contributed to our household and we got the next one we applied for!! Unbelievable. That too was in Bris!
Now we are looking to rent elsewhere as our current place doesn't have enough room for bubs and we aren't getting what we are applying for and it's really frustrating!
Can't wait until the land we want is available to buy and we don't have to deal with this rubbish anymore!
Good luck!!

Sammy i live in east ipswich and love it here. ipswich in general has a bad rep, but east ipswich has been fantastic. they shouldnt be turning you down if the rent is no more than 1 third of your partner's income. try switch realty, i have been renting through them for two years and found them to be fantastic. my husband was unable to work for 6 months due to an accident and they let us resign the lease even though the rent was more than half my income. i would also contact the RTA to see if they are allowed to deny your applications on the basis that you don't work, it doesnt sound right to me.

SammyP... there is also an intercampus bus between the Ipswich and St. Lucia campuses... so if you could find a rental closer to the Ipswich campus you could use the intercampus bus to get to St Lucia.
(They are both campuses of University of Queensland)
I find it strange too. We've always gotten the first house we applied for. And until this year I was a SAHM on parenting payment and DH was only making about 45000 a year...
Who knows...
Is there a reason you need a house and yard? Could you just rent an apartment or townhouse for a while, until you start a family?
(No way I'd want the maintenance of a house unless I had little people! I can't wait for them to leave home... so I can downsize! lol.)Last edited by OJandMe; 27-01-2012 at 21:03.

I have a couple in our rental and the woman doesn't work. She might receive some sort of benefit but it never worried us that she isn't working.
