thats so odd. dh and i are renting atm because we are building. I dont work at all and we have 2 young children. we just took on a lease in november (1st we applied to) and we got it. dh earns $65k per year plus extras, overtime etc so about $110k. we are married though it still didnt matter 3 years ago when we rented and had a new job. maybe ring the RTA for truthful advice on why.

If anything I would suspect it's because you're a uni student and she may have had bad experiences and think you want to partay and trash the house.
Did you say you're doing post-grad or w/e? do you get a scholarship? Maybe you need to reword the applications to make you sound like a giant nerd?

That is very weird. If that was the case, lots of couples wouldn't get rentals. But if the one agent has the monopoly in that area, there's not a lot you can do except lie and say your parents support you or look further afield.
You could talk to the authority in your State, but I don't think they can force someone to rent to you.
You could also try the local paper and see if there are private rentals available. You might get lucky.

Sounds weird to me too. I have several properties which I rent out and we rent to all family groups (DINKS, parents both working, single parents, one partner working, unemployed).
Is there any other real estate agent to go through or is private rental an option? That managing agent sounds like a ****!

w/e just = whatever
Could you ring a real estate agent in a different area? They may be able to help somehow, or at least give advice.
It can be very hard to get rentals, the real estate agent may just be able to pick & choose so she's just going for whatever is the safer bet each time.

Might just try a different area and hope we get a better agent
