Hi there. I am coming to Townsville in April and want to ask for recommendations on places to stay. It's for 2 adults and 2 kids so need an apartment, unit or holidayhome. And we will be there for 12 days. Money is always a decider but we also like to stay somewhere cumfy, suitable and with full kitchen facilities too!! (always looking for a bargain tho lol)

I like Big 4 places, there is one at Cluden, but alsoRydges in South Townsville have apartments that are massive and fully self containedbut they have no playground as such only a pool at the apartments and a pool across at the motel.

Stayed here in early December:
Not 5 star but everything we needed including a great pool with large 'beach' area for the kids to paddle. Only 2 queen beds though so kids would need to share, don't know if that's an issue and portacot if needed is BYO or hire in Townsville. Close to town too. Price seems to have gone up slightly in the New Year but still reasonable I think, can check the website out for other places too.

Mercure inn on Woolcock street is great for families (the pool is awesome) & was refurbished not long ago, however it's not as central as some others. I would personally try and stay on Palmer Street or Flinders Street, or near the Strand...the atmosphere is nicer and very close to restaurants, the museum, art gallery, mall and the beach (including kids waterpark).
There are new holiday apartments on Flinders St West - Q Resorts Central, which are nice and I think they are fairly reasonably priced.
Otherwise Rydges on Palmer St or Oaks Gateway (also on Palmer st).
Mariners North is nice, on Mariners Dr (near the Strand). A bit older though, and you can probably get more for your money with the other ones.
The Grand Mercure apartments on Palmer St are very nice Probably a bit more pricey though. Same with Jupiters - pricey but nice.

I forgot to mention Ocean Breeze, on Mitchell st. It's one street behind the Strand - the apartments are fully self contained (washing machine, dishwasher etc), and the location is excellent. They are a bit older than some but nice and clean, and reasonably priced. I stayed there when I went back home for a wedding last year and it was great - staff were lovely too
