Default Trying with other assisted conception methods...how long before you moved on to IVF?

    Hi All

We have been actively TTC for over 2 years and trying with the assistance of our obgyn for over 1 year. I have been diagnosed as annovulatory, but have not really been checked out that thoroughly (blood tests, internal examination & ultrasound only).

I completed 3 cycles with Clomid - no ovulation, before moving onto FSH stimulated cycles with a trigger. I am now on my 6th cycle using this method, and am no longer feeling positive about it.

My obgyn originally said we would try this for 6 months (cycles) and if no result we will move on to IVF. In my last appointment with my specialist I asked about waiting times etc for IVF and whether it was time to move on. He is now saying I should keep trying this way for another couple of months (at least 8 cycles).

My question is, for those that were on stims before IVF - how long did you try before making the decision to move on to IVF? I am struggling with the decision.

    Thanks, Lee

Funny I had no luck with ivf but two successful pregnancies with ovulation induction (one clomid, one puregon). Both were first cycles though. Good luck.

I did 3 cycles with clomid and then 2xIUIs before deciding I was keen to try IVF. You can get all the IVF stuff started (police checks, counselling etc) though while doing the ovulation induction, so then you're ready to go if you decide to travel the IVF path and there's no extra waiting...

We are current doing IUI. HAve had two unsuccessful cycles using only Clomid. ( i do ovulate but it doesn't work). We are now on Metformin and i will do up to 3 cycles with that and see where we are. If at that point we have been unsuccessful, so long as i can pay for it we will be doing IVF ( if not then a couple more IUIU until i can pay for it).
If that is unsuccessful, we will prob go back to IUI until i can afford another shot at IVF.
Once IVF has proven unsuccessful ( not sure how many i will do before i decide not to do any more) or i run out of eggs ( low AMH) i will then use my sisters eggs.

Just curious but why would you need a police check done to do IVF???

You need police check if you are in Victoria.

Thanks everyone, it really helps to hear other peoples plans and paths, and compare experiences. I live in Country NSW so don't have alot of options on the FS department, I'm lucky to be seeing the one I am!!

I have gotten in comtact with IVF Aus and they have said the first step is to make an appointment with one of their FS' so I think this is what I will be doing.

    Thanks again for sharing

My gyno told us that if iui +/- ovulation induction doesn't work within 4-6 cycles, it probably isn't going to ever work. We did 3 iuis and got successful on the 3rd try with twins, now just turned a month old.

    Good luck to you.
