I had them broken with DS, but with DD I noticed a stain on my pad after mild cramping at 41 weeks and the rest gushed out as she was being born just 3 hours later.
Some people have a big gush first, but I think DD was blocking my cervix at the start of labour because I had been dilating for a couple of weeks when I went into labour.
Edit: sorry, forgot to add that the reason the fluid was stained with DD was that we later found out that she had passed meconium before I went into labour. Luckily I had a quick labour.

Mine broke in the shower about 7 hours into my labour. I could feel them gushing out and definitely no mistaking them for wee, there was lots of it!

With DS1 they were ruptured artificially to "move things along", he was born 6-7hrs later. I knew it wasd happening, and i could feel it gushing.
With DS2 they ruptured naturally after 2.5hrs of labour, he was born 30min later. They were very heavily stained with meconium. I knew it happened as i was sitting on the toilet and they exploded everywhere, the thick dark green water was obviously my waters.

I literally heard a pop and then a big gush of warm fluid. I would have to be extremely incontinent to accidentally pee that much in bed.
