    If it is a call from a company, whether for a credit issue, serving papers or anything of a business matter then what they have said is deceptive and illegal, and would be in breach if whatever code they are bound by (ie credit code of practice)

    I'd ask her to say that she won't give your address, but she will contact your husband and will pass on a message then BAM report them to the relevant ombudsman.

    Could it be someone trying to get money from him? As in not money owed but some sort of extortion attempt?

    extortion was the wrong word - i meant something less sinister. like 'you caused me to lose my job in X year - give me $20k and I'll go away'.

    You could call the police on the non emergency line and see what their advice is, or if they have heard of this sort of thing happening.

    Very scary!
