    Default Baby Bonus

For anyone that has claimed the baby bonus in the past how long did it take centerlink to start paying? I worked all the way up till 2 weeks before DD was born. We saved money leading up to her birth to tide us over till centerlink started paying but we have spent most of that. Now living on one wage is going to be really tough for us. We handed all the paperwork in just over 3 weeks ago.

    Hi MissJa,
I would suggest ringing the family assistance office and requesting your claim be finalised ASAP if you are in financial hardship. I would suggest calling early or late (lines open 8-8) as they can get quite busy.
Additionally if you lodged your paperwork at Medicare rather than posting it in it can take longer.

    Definitely agree ring in.

I have found lodging through Medicare is actually quicker... *shrugs*
Both mine have been paid within 21 days going through Medicare.

Quick question on this do you have to have the birth certificate first before handing in paperwork?

No. You just need the hospital papers with the details of the birth.

The only reason I recommend going with Medicare is you get the new "card" there and then...
