Did you guys know you can actually claim dental and medical bills at tax time?
For the medical expenses tax offset claim you can get about 20% back on any amount over $2000.
Here is a link that helps explain the details
We had to show our accountant the bills and any refund from medicare, as he only used the difference. Still we got some back, so it was woth it.
Hope this helps.

with all the complications that could arise i think that king eddy would be the best place for you and your bub.
as i tell everyone just because you go private doesnt mean you will get better care, i went to murdoch and the doctor who delivered my baby was extremly imcompetent.

I'm not in Perth but I am private and high risk. I go to my private ob and another specialist which I pay for and I also attend the FMU (fetal monitoring unit) of the public hospital that specializes in high risk in my region.
When at the FMU I get all my scans and tests etc done as a public patient and they get reported back to my private ob.
The intention is still to birth at the private hospital with my private ob (with the chance I might still end up at the public hospital, just have to wait and see how far I get).
Is that an option for you?

Thanks for all your replies you have been so helpful!!
I have spoken to my OBs office an medicare a few times now and I think you get around 80% back from most scans ect the same as before it's just the OBs fees that you don't but yeh they all basically said you won't know till you claim them back so will wait and see either way I have to pay them.
Davally thanks for letting me know bout that! I asked my OB and he said because of the amount of scans I will need he would do shared care with the high risk hosp and he would get a second opinion on everything as well so now he actually wants me to go there as well haha. Do you find you get treated differently at the public?? I called them today to book a scan and she was soo rude!! Basically said I have no choice of the appointment time or day and they would ph me when they had received my referral and give me a time/date and I HAD to be there then. Also are the waits longer for your scans and appointments?? My husband wants me to just stick to private now as he owns his own business and can't just have any day off ect.
