My DD was 2 when she had her first thorough checkup but I had taken her with me from quite a young age and let her sit on my lap and open her mouth up just to get her used to the dentist.

    ,

Ours started when they were about 18mths. We have check ups every six months so the first few were really just to get them used to the chair and having their teeth counted and touched.

    HTHs.

I took my son a couple of months after his third birthday for a check up. probably could have taken him earlier.

I go twice a year so will take him with me each time from now on.

I was told 12 months, then every 6 months after that. I can't afford it, so waited for the free one when she was 7, then every second year which is all she can get for free.

I had heard 1, so when DS was 2ish we took him with us. He was really scared and refused to open his mouth. Dentist had originally said 3-4ish but because he was an early teether (started at 4months) and had all his teeth i wanted them checked. We took him last year at jsut over 3 and he was excellent. Buzz lightyear came too and also had his teeth checked . DS had seen an episode of 'Sid the Science Kid' talking about the importance of cleaning your teeth and 'you have to go to the dentist to check you don't have any cavaties'. DH was very impressed. I would try at 2 or earlier but 3-4 worked for us

My son is 4.5 and I'm annoyed I've never taken him sooner...but he is now showing enough confidence and desire to go see the dentist so we'll be going soon

My dd2 is 2 and a half and has been twice. First at two just for fun after my visit to get her used to the idea then just again recently for a proper check up. She loved it but asked for a Lolly at the end cos the doctor always gives her a Lolly. Needless to say, there was no Lolly lol
